as I was cutting the shapes out for these homemade peanut butter dog treats, the story of Raggedy Ann and The Cookie Snatcher popped into my head. Do you remember that Little Golden Book? Where Raggedy Ann and her friends make cookies with different shapes – a triangle, circle, square and heart. But then the cookie snatcher (Peter, the hound dog) strikes! Short story – Peter is sorry for cookie snatching and Raggedy Ann makes him his own dog house cookie. It’s a real page turner.
Anyways, these cookies are for all the Peters out there.
It’s probably obvious by now, but I love spoiling my Loki Bear. Remember last fall when I made him homemade sweet potato dog treats? Those were such a hit! But, my boy requires variety. He’s just picky like that. Enter these super easy dog treats with peanut butter and pumpkin. I wanted something a little simpler to make than my previous recipe with less ingredients and comes together in the food processor in 5 minutes. Bonus points – they’re gluten free and all 4 ingredients are things I’d probably eat in a cookie. That being said, there’s no shame if you nibble the corner of one. I won’t tell.
Easy Homemade Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Dog Treats
yields ~60 one inch treats
what you’ll need
2 cups oats
1/2 cup natural creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon baking soda
how to whip it up
Preheat oven to 350°. Line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone mat.
In a food processor fitted with the blade, pulse oats and baking soda 6-8 times until oats are a fine, almost flour consistency. Add in peanut butter and pumpkin, whirl together on high until a dough ball forms.
Roll out dough until 1/4 inch thick. Cut with 1 inch cookie cutters. Place on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges have crisped up and treats slide easily on tray. Yields roughly 60 one inch treats. Store in airtight container, refrigerated. You can freeze these up to 3 months, just make sure to thaw them out before giving to your pup!
share with the Peter (or loki!!) in your life <3
