Hi guys (can you see my mitten clad hands waving to you from chilly Vermont?). It’s been a few. I’m still here, and I’m glad you are too. December was a complete whirl wind and not having a single weekend just at home (until next weekend actually…), I haven’t had time to play in my kitchen (aka, make a giant mess that Jesse graciously cleans up). We had the usual holiday stuff, plus weddings and other family things which made the last month seem like we spent the majority of our weekends in the Jeeps. And while I love our Jeeps…I’m ready to take a break. It’s not you, it’s me…but actually driving a old manual Jeep for other 30 accumulated hours is exhausting.
Anyways, I don’t have a recipe for you today. I’m hoping that this weekend (finally! a weekend at home!) I’ll be able to bust out a few that I’ve been itching to share. Instead, here are a few things that have happened over the last month:
Jesse and I got all dolled up and went to a friend’s wedding. My dad was kind enough to point out that in all the photo’s we took together, it looks like there is a line of guys behind us standing at the urinal (they were standing at the bar!). This was the least offensive photo taken. Thanks for keeping it real Dad.
I had a birthday! It was swell. I was showered with cakes, flowers, minty m&ms, a mug with Loki’s face on it, and a new pair of LLBean slippers to keep my toesies warm in the -10° degree weather we had all month. OH AND A FREAKING WAFFLE MAKER. I’m pretty sure I ate waffles for 3 square meals a day the week after my birthday. And I have zero regrets about it.
Jesse had to zip down to Florida for a work thingy (I know, poor him) so I took the weekend to
raid my parent’s fridge go see my parents in NY with Loki! Loki ended up staying the week at my parent’s (Poodle Paraside!) instead of driving back to VT with me, just to save him all the car time since I’d be back the next weekend for Christmas.
While at my parents, we baked some amazing almond sugar cookies with boozy almeretto frosting. This is definitely a recipe I’ll be sharing with you. Maybe for Valentine’s Day? Here’s a picture of the Christmas version:
Christmas was full of family, legos and poodles. Jesse and I got my parents a movie projector and will now be attending the weekly Friday 7pm showing at their home movie theater. Mom butters the popcorn just right and we always have the best seats in the house…unless one of my parent’s poodles falls asleep on the couch…then we have the second best seats in the house. Jesse got me a KitchenAid stand mixer, which is kind of a present to him too, right? It also means I should probably get a gym membership because mixing cookie and bread dough by hand was basically the only upper body workout I’ve been doing lately. He also gifted me an IOU for a summer trip to Quebec City. He even wrote the IOU note in French. You know I’m going to keep that and frame it because I’m a giant sap like that.
I took up crocheting. Loki’s blanket is coming along smashingly. He loves it. Clearly.
My parents got me a small watercolor paint set and of course one of the first things I painted were mini pop tarts. Mini paint set = mini paintings. Duh.
I went for a run during our -5° snowstorm (I believe it’s official name was Grayson or bomb-cyclopse-apacolypse-something?) and was caught in the act by the local news. Here’s a link to the video, if you want to check out my 5 seconds of fame. LINK TO FAME (I’m the one in yellow running…)
We continued our New Years tradition hosting friends at the cabin. It was fun. There was good food, good friends, good booze. BUT it was so cold that my windshield cracked. Seriously. A great way to start the new year, eh?
Anyways, its 2018 and I’m happy to be here with you guys. Let’s hope this year of full of marzipan, boozy frosting and loads of dark chocolate.0
